When Summer Ends - Winter Blues begins...

With the end of summer the weather gets cooler, the day gets shorter and the rain becomes more frequent. These changes can trigger mood swings within us.

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons — SAD begins and ends at about the same times every year. If you're like most people with SAD, your symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody. There is a huge desire to get comfortable on the couch and stay home to watch TV or play video games.

So what causes seasonal affective disorder (SAD)?

One major factor is the decrease in daylight. Some of us become lethargic and sluggish. The desire to stay active fades away, and we rather stay home than go outside and have some fun. It is easy to fall into depression with lack of energy. Once the depression takes over it affects the immune system as well.

What can we do in this situation? Here are some tips to avoid SAD.

1) Use the daylight to the maximum! If you have a chance to take a break during workday, you might want to go outside and enjoy the sunlight. Make sure to work on the most important things in the morning when you are concentrated the most. That way, you are going on a break with accomplished feeling.

2) Get a good night sleep! You had delicious dinner and obviously you are feeling tired after a long day. But, you want to catch that episode of your favorite show on TV or Netflix. Do yourself a favor, and go to sleep. Your body will appreciate it and you will feel energized the next morning.

3) SAD will have little effect on you if you continue to eat right. During the summer we tend to wear short clothes because it is hot. We also try to eat healthier and exercise more. However, once it gets colder, our body needs to stay warm. In order to keep itself warm, it needs more fuel or in our case the calories. It triggers the hunger signal and we tend to eat when we shouldn’t or to over eat. However, if we stick to the proper diet throughout the year, weather changes won’t affect the body or the mind. You will avoid eating too much and gaining unnecessary weight. Not only you will stay healthy, but you will keep some bucks in the wallet, since you won’t need a bigger pair of jeans.

4) During fall and winter our body usually lacks essential vitamins. Therefore, it is critical to help the immune system. One of the solutions is to eat natural foods containing all the vital vitamins. However, we never get enough vitamins due to our busy schedule. Therefore, we can add dietary supplements to our diet.

Dr. Nona’s Goldseen dietary supplement contains necessary vitamins to support the immune system.

Another great dietary supplement by Dr. Nona is Ravseen. It contains necessary amount of antioxidants. Antioxidants stimulate rejuvenation of the skin and its overall appearance.

5) Get more fresh air. Try to spend more time outside. Breathing fresh air helps your immune system to stay strong. Exercise outside when weather is permitting. Even short walk for 10 minutes will help to improve your mood. Break a routine by shopping outside and not online. Go to the mall and get some bright colored clothes to elevate your mood.

6) Take care of your body. Don’t forget to treat your body as the most valuable thing in the world, because it is. Make sure to get a nice massage, face mask, manicure and pedicure.

And, don’t forget to take a nice and warm bath with Dr. Nona’s quartet of bath salts. It will relax your body and mind.

Remember! You are responsible for your mood. Treat your body right. It is sacred. Enjoy your life and forget about SAD!
